The following is an addiction story based on actual events.

It would be interesting to see if anyone else know someone who had a similar experience - getting hooked on painkillers after an accident. If you do, it would be great if you could leave a note in the comment section.

-------

I didn’t just wake up one morning and decide to be addicted. No, it’s these crazy painkillers that got me addicted. I didn’t realize how good I had it being an “average Joe” before this happened. One stupid car accident, and my whole life changed, and not for the better either. All I knew at first was that the OxyContin they gave me worked to get rid of the intense pain I was in. Little did I know I was in for more pain as a result.

So, after a couple of weeks, the pain starts to ease up. Just to be sure it didn’t sneak up on me; I kept taking these crazy painkillers that got me addicted. That’s when I realize how good they make me feel. They call it “a euphoric” feeling. All I know is it feels awesome. It makes me feel relaxed and at one with the world. It’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced it, but believe me, an Oxy high is just incredible.

It was really easy to get refills from the doctor. I just told him I still hurt like hell and he started writing another OxyContin prescription. After a few weeks, I really don’t even know if there was still pain, because I was taking these crazy painkillers that got me addicted all day, every day. In fact, I started crushing up the pill and snorting it. It was an instant high. About that time; I started going through the prescription way too fast.

Well, long story short, my supply ran out and I had to start looking for street pharm. I’d gone from full time at work to part time, so I had to find money somewhere. “Somewhere” ended up being my girlfriend, family, friends, even strangers if I could get away with it. It’s crazy, but they actually put up with it for a while. Then somebody got smart and found out about intervention.

Man, I hated them for doing it. All of them there, crying, telling me they wanted to help me. At the time, I thought they were all betraying me. It turned out; it was one of the best days of my life. I just didn’t realize it at the time. Looking back, it all seems so weird. It’s like I became a different person and then I had to find me again. All because of these crazy painkiller that got me addicted.
